I didn't watch the game, so you tell me:
Is Tarik Cohen worth using my #1 waiver priority?

hmm.
The falcons defense was completely out of sorts the whole game and for the amount he sat in the 4th quarter its not clear the bears know exactly what to do about him so it's a risky bet but he bears have so few options he might be worth the risk

Figured the Bears would lose 30-13, so this was more interesting than expected.

Bears are anticipating Kevin White will be out for the season with a broken collarbone.
So glad the Bears traded Brandon Marshall and took him with the #7 overall pick. O and: decided to not re-sign Alshon.

O and: decided to not re-sign Alshon. I actually kind of liked Marquess Wilson a few years ago too, he at least showed some flashes. Not sure why they gave up on him so quickly.
Just now reading Wilson will be working out for New England this week, given all of their WR injury woes. So yeah, he'll probably be a Pro Bowler next year.

Dammit, I'm gonna have to ditch Kevin White now

AND ALSO it sucks that an adult man broke his collarbone doing his job and nobody is surprised by it. I feel like my first post lacked sympathy.

I really like this team I just drafted. It amuses me, but I'm also feeling confident that I'll slay going into the playoffs. Tom Brady TY Hilton Allen Robinson Davonta Freeman Lamar Miller Martellus Bennett Adrian Peterson Doug Martin (suspended) Cam Newton Willie Snead (suspended) Marvin Jones Jr Kenny Britt Graham Gano Matt Prater (dropping for Kenny Stills) Arizona D Gano is on the bubble, fyi. Carolina kept two kickers and they're trying to deal either Gano or the rookie. Oh yeah... I swap kickers pretty regularly and probably won't keep him long. That said, I'm a fan. Kickers got it rough.

Bears are anticipating Kevin White will be out for the season with a broken collarbone. So glad the Bears traded Brandon Marshall and took him with the #7 overall pick. O and: decided to not re-sign Alshon. I'll try to help explain why: Brandon Marshall is toxic. Every team that takes this head case finds that out soon enough. He's on his 6th NFL team in 12 years. This is for a guy that is 2nd in the NFL for active receiving yards. Just take the other nine and have either been on one team the whole time (Larry Fitzgerald, Jason Witten, Antonio Gates, Antonio Brown, Demaryius Thomas, Julio Jones, Jordy Nelson) or just two teams (DeSean Jackson and Greg Olsen (via trade)). Alshon Jeffrey wanted WR1 money from the Bears after giving them all of 6 TDs in two season. He was suspended for four games, nearly a game for every touchdown over TWO YEARS. After hitting the market, he realized nobody was paying him dick so he signed with Philly rather than return to Chicago with his tail between his legs. The bears instead opted to run with Cameron Meridith, Kevin White and hoped one of Markus Wheaton, Kendall Wright and Rueben Randle could play the #3. That's a better option than overpaying for someone who hasn't done dick in two years and a head case who has been run out of five cities including Chicago. With all that said, the Bears didn't look bad on offense yesterday. Pick on Pace for drafting White because that now looks like a terrible pick. However, don't blame him for not re-signing two receivers who had no business staying here or getting paid what they wanted to stay here. Save your money and take a shot at Terrelle Pryor, Sammy Watkins, Taylor Gabriel, Davante Adams or even Jarvis Landry via free agency after this season.

Yeah the Bears were a dropped pass by Bellamy away from winning that game yesterday. They did have something like 23 passing yards through the first two and a half quarters, though.

Isn't that kind of the point though? A true professional wide receiver would have made that catch. Personally, I understand moving on from Alshon and Marshall. I just don't like the idea of building around a rookie quarterback without giving him reliable, experienced pass catchers. If you look at the history of successful young/rookie quarterbacks, they've almost always had veteran receivers to help them out. Luck had Reggie Wayne. Ben had Hines Ward. Rodgers had Jennings and Driver. If you look at recent guys who have flopped, from Jamarcus Russell to Blaine Gabbert, they've had mostly abysmal receiving corps.

Yeah thats basically the issue. The highest paid player on the team is a shitty quarterback who has played 4 games in his whole career and there is no experienced player to catch the ball to actually see if this bum is worth a shit

I didn't watch the game, so you tell me: Is Tarik Cohen worth using my #1 waiver priority? Waiver wire adds in non-FAAB leagues are basically free (the only cost being whichever player you'll be dropping), so why not? The usual caveats apply, of course: one game's results shouldn't be viewed as predictive and he's on a team with a shitty QB. That said, he certainly looked good in the highlights. Seems to me like the coaching staff would look to give him more opportunities following that performance. He can also clearly catch the ball which Jordan Howard clearly can not. If Cunningham is going to be out for even a week or two, that gives Cohen more opportunity to cement a #2 role and make a case for an RBBC approach with Howard. A few final thoughts. First, the Bears will be facing defenses that perform much better against pass-catching RBs. On the other hand, they're also likely to be playing from behind for much of the season - that's a positive for a back like Cohen. A depleted WR corps also gives Cohen a bump in my mind.

I understand how waiver adds work. I know some leagues reset their waiver order every week based on standings, etc. but that's not the issue here.
But the way my league is set up, I drafted 12th (out of 12 teams), and the team who drafts last gets first waiver priority (11th pick starts at #2, etc.). I keep that #1 priority until I use it, then you go to the back of the line. So it's actually a really valuable position to have. When I have that #1 spot, I don't typically use it unless I know the person I'm picking up is basically a "can't miss" guy. I'm talking guys like Ty Montgomery and Jordan Howard last year, or Thomas Rawls the year he broke out down the stretch after Lynch got hurt.
So yeah, I've seen the highlights. But having not seen much more of the game, I'm curious if this is a fluke or if the Bears are going to continue making an effort to get Cohen involved. Maybe he fits well with Glennon's checkdown-heavy "attack," but what happens when Trubisky inevitably takes over? Is it possible Cohen could split out and play some WR now that the Bears are short yet another WR? Or maybe he just caught the Falcons off guard and future opponents will be able to plan for him going forward and he'll be seen as a one-week wonder? Remember when everyone rushed to pick up Kevin Ogletree a few years ago?
Either way, it's not a no-brainer "unquestioned new lead back in a good offense" sort of pickup like some of the guys mentioned above, who you can plug into one of your RB slots for the rest of the season. That's the type of guy I usually like to use that #1 waiver for.

I would not use that first waiver spot on him. I think there will be more valuable "can't miss" guys down the road when guys get injured. He'll undoubtedly be picked up by someone else in your league but I just don't think he will have that production week in and week out.

The only way he's an every week starter is if Howard somehow gets hurt, in which case I'd really regret not picking him up. Main reason I'm even considering is is because my RB situation is pretty bad. Hyde and Kelley were both terrible this week, but I have both Bucs guys (Rodgers and Martin), so hopefully that'll help.

Well David Johnson reportedly might be needing surgery for his wrist injury. I would monitor this situation if I were you. Just came here to post that. Sounds like he's going to the IR, which would mean at least 8 weeks. And the David Johnson owner in my league is an idiot and didn't handcuff him to Kerwynn Williams, so that might be the more valuable pickup anyway.

The money league I'm in started an auction based waiver wire this year. No idea what to expect from it. I'm pretty sure someone is going to bid $300 on Cohen with the amount of Chicagoans in the league.

Vikes looked great. Granted it was the Saints defense, but 100+ yards on the ground from Cook and then the Diggs/Theilan combo was killer.
Slowly gonna talk myself in Bradford being able to win this division....

My point is they will find viable WR options moving forward, or at least I hope they do. I don't think anyone could have predicted how awful Kevin White would be. However, the following QBs started out with not having dick to work with and turned out fine: Troy Aikman- Kelvin Martin and Derrick Shepard (combined for less than 900 yards that year) John Elway- Rick Upchurch and Steve Watson Donovan McNabb- Torrence Small and Charles Johnson And while not great, at least Gabbert began with Marcedes Lewis, Cecil Shorts, Maurice Jones Drew and then spent their next 5th overal pick on Justin Blackmon who liked drugs more than football. oops!

David Johnson's surgery is official. Here's the rotoworld blurb
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports David Johnson will have surgery on his wrist this week and be out 2-3 months.
Johnson and the Cardinals seemed to be looking for a doctor who would advise rehab instead of surgery, but in the end they will opt for the operation. Schefter adds the Cardinals are sending Johnson to injured reserve, making his earliest return Week 10 against the Seahawks. It is also possible we do not see him again this season. Teams with IR slots should certainly stash Johnson for a potential playoff run, but teams with short benches have a tough decision on their hands. Kerwynn Williams and Andre Ellington will form a committee with Johnson sidelined, although Arizona also should look to bring in outside help.

The Bears paid $19 million for a QB who cannot throw down the field and still turns it over constantly.
