i don't think 2011 was a particularly strong year for the type of movies that win oscars.

I thought we just discussed this like 2 months ago. TL;Dr The Apartment is good and most Oscar movies are aggressively fine.

not surprising but slightly disappointing in a way that almost makes me want to include it: no votes for mother!

almost agree with avb with a few minor variations but i feel like there's a unanimous set of echelons here Parasite, 12 Years, and Moonlight are all stellar wins that everyone is pretty cool with Argo, Shape of Water, Spotlight, and probably Birdman are all "okay fine i guess that makes sense" picks and then King's Speech, The Artist, and Green Book were unanimously LOL FUCKING REALLY choices Yes, this would pretty much be my own three-tier ranking (though I haven't seen the Green Book)

Birdman sucks ass Inarritu is also bad!I beg to disagree on this one (even if I know that I am in hostile territory here) - Amorres Perros in in my overall top 5 favourite movies ever, and Biutful made my 2010s movies top 10 or top 15 (can't recall) I wasn't sold to Birdman or The Revenant though, and have mixed views on Babel

Well fellas the day has come. I've irritated so many of you into putting together a list, and many others have had great conversations about all of this. How fun! Working during a crisis is exhausting so forgive me if results aren't tabulated immediately, but I should have them all done by this weekend! Thanks a bunch, and I'm not sorry for bullying you!

Let it be known that I am for sure working on this, I got a lot done this past weekend. I have run into an excel issue that I needed to sleep on but I am ALMOST CERTAIN I have it figured out. Results should be tabulated tonight, posted tomorrow.

jupiter ascending isnt the trashwork that scifi fans wanna say it is but i'm also not super compelled to rewatch it oh hey this randomly popped up in a podcast last week so we decided to give it a rewatch on saturday. and umm i quite like it this time around? like the beginning is still super shaky and everyone is unlikable (heroes included,) but the sheer world building and attention given to really insane sci fi concepts and general politics of the universe were so fascinating this time around that i really didnt mind how bland the main characters are cause all i wanted to watch were the villains and the governing bodies go at it. also the set designs are completely batshit in the best way.

I watched it like right after Rise of Skywalker came out so I was super primed to like it on the grounds of "well at least the Wachowskis actually tried do something interesting" but tbh was sort of let down
