tfw a star wars movie knocks out moonlight

I think Moonlight would win. TLJ is just about as good as a lot of more highbrow stuff, tho.
If an MCU movie beat moonlight or basically any other movie that actually feels like a human being made it and not a focus group I think it would be cause for outrage. and I say that as someone who enjoys them.

Another sorta surprising one: No votes for Blue is the Warmest Color a movie even more explicitly shrouded in misconduct (also a movie that was insanely overrated on release. the worst 2010s palme d'or winner of the ones i've seen [decent chance dheepan is worse])

I liked it. Wasn't the complaint against it that the sex is preposterous? Isn't most movie sex preposterous?

Also is Dheepan supposed to be bad? I loved Rust and Bone

I think it's a good movie, but it was definitely overrated at the time. I haven't seen Dheepan or I Daniel Blake but I like it about as well as The Square or (sry!) Tree of Life krentist after the movie came out the actresses said that the director mistreated them during shooting, though it seems like they walked back some of their comments later

I loved Rust and Bone i just remember at the time the reaction being " that one the palme? a minor-audiard? ok." idk if it's actually bad, but it seemed to not inspire much passion at the time and so i never ended up seeing it. blue is the warmest color is also not *bad* it's just not a masterpiece or anything. has many flaws but great performances.

He apparently liquored up one of the actresses for his latest for an unsimulated sex scene, which was supposed to be the worst film screened in competition at Cannes last year.

Just looked up that movie and this was one of the first user reviews that popped up:
Reviews overly critical. I don’t care about the high nose society who overly examine films. You watch it. You understand that your troubles pale in comparison to the worlds. You are infinite tiny speck BUT you are significant and all those people who explain away that this was cliche or a tug on heart strings obviously do not understand the human condition and that it is regular normal and not outstanding.
lol

i think if i rank the 2010s best picture winners: parasite moonlight 12 years a slave spotlight argo the shape of water birdman the king's speech green book the artist 1. Parasite 2. Moonlight 3. 12 Years a Slave 4. The Shape of Water 5. Birdman 6. The Artist 7. Kings Speech 8. Spotlight 9. Argo
I havent seen Green Book and I dont care to.
I would rank every single one of these films as at least good

almost agree with avb with a few minor variations but i feel like there's a unanimous set of echelons here
Parasite, 12 Years, and Moonlight are all stellar wins that everyone is pretty cool with
Argo, Shape of Water, Spotlight, and probably Birdman are all "okay fine i guess that makes sense" picks
and then King's Speech, The Artist, and Green Book were unanimously LOL FUCKING REALLY choices

Birdman is the worst one. King's Speech is just a movie ass movie and The Artist is a pleasant novelty. Haven't seen Green Book.

iirc there were some big defenders of The Artist's best picture win among the film people on the old board. kinda wish they were here to mix things up
