Yeah it's nuts. My wife hates horror movies and said she's even seen most of it. She's been mocking me most of the day.

I saw the 2nd Nightmare before the first one. My parents rented it for some reason - which is weird b/c I don't remember them being crazy about the first one.
Also, AMC is showing The Shining right now if you're bored.

My brothers apparently had this grand plan to make me watch a bunch of horror movies when I was a kid. First one the showed me was The Exorcist, and I ended up enjoying it, so they abandoned the plan. Nightmare on Elm Street was next on the list.

My parents showed me The Fly when I was 9 or 10. They also let me watch the final part of Aliens when Ripley goes to rescue the little girl.

Man I fucking loved this. Definitely don't read anything about it if you're planning on watching it. Edit: One Cut of the Dead, for reference

Martyrs is maybe the most brutal film I’ve ever seen. Good times.

Yeah, Martyrs is one of the hardest films I've sat through.

26. The Ring (2002; Gore Verbinksi)Haven't seen it in so long, it basically feels like a first-timer. But I do remember seeing this on VHS when it came out and a lot of it does hold up. "I saw her face." is a top-five jump scare for me. That wouldn't be a bad list to put together...

So turns out Nightmare on Elm Street is not actually streaming anywhere (I thought I had read it was on Shudder or Hulu), so I'll probably just cave and buy it tonight.

A legitimately great sequel (including returning characters from the original) is in there, too. You don't need to see 2 to enjoy 3.

yeah it's on my list for this weekend. havent watched The Ring in probably a decade but thinking about certain scenes still bothers me.
separately, for anyone who picked up Shudder -- Joe Bob Briggs is doing a Halloween Hootenanny marathon tonight! no idea what movies he's playing yet but it's never not a wonderful time if you're looking to stay home and just watch some shlocky horror with an encyclopedic host

we're going to the drive in at McHenry tonight for Beetlejuice and Addams family and bringing our own booze! (i think last weekend they had Exorcist and the Shining which would've been phenomenal but we were swamped) Exorcist on a big screen would be such a treat

Aw I love that middle-of-nowhere drive in. I saw the BTTF triple-feature there for a birthday awhile ago.

Simpsons prepared me for the plot, but I was not expecting Johnny Depp to stick around for as long as he did.

22. Blood Feastthis ruled. Just excurciatingly boring and every shot is just absolutely baffling in its framing. an hour goes by in 4. five stars.

I watched Hellraiser tonight! It wasn't scary, just freaky. I have some questions about Larry.

23. Willow CreekThe 2nd half is real effective but it takes forever to get going. Would have preferred it got into lore or something it kinda just felt like a rough draft but I didn't dislike it.

27. The Exorcist (1973; William Friedken)I went to this with the guy who previously referred to Samuel L. Jackson as "Sammy J" via text; he fell asleep during the exorcism and loudly snored during not one, but two extremely tense moments - at which point I had to literally shake him awake. This is almost certainly the best horror movie ever made. Later that night, I half-paid attention to The Stuff, which was goofy, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 which I thoroughly love. 28. Midsommar (2019; Ari Aster)
I mean, shit. Probably the longest movie I've seen that I thought should've been longer. I am already excited to see the Director's Cut (started with theatrical). Also hoping Aster's full 4 hour cut sees light eventually.
