Candyman wastes no time setting a fantastic creepy tone
Related: my cat has picked right now to start running spontaneous hot laps and it’s scaring the bejesus out of me

Candyman is the extremely rare example of good movie that also makes sense to be remade.

Did not like this movie. Did not expect to like this movie. I had it in my queue so I caved. Such a dumb concept for a movie. I was done with it as soon as I saw the little kid bringing up the lead behind the deaf daughter. And then they flash forward and the wife is pregnant, which is brilliant. Just fuck this movie.

Also my beard right now is strikingly similar to John Krasinski's in this movie. I was not going for an end of the world look, but it looks good.

While its not as inept and horrible as It Chapter 2 I'd put it in the same category of "if you like this movie you have iredeeambly shit taste"

While its not as inept and horrible as It Chapter 2 I'd put it in the same category of "if you like this movie you have iredeeambly shit taste" I think it helped when I saw it in theaters that I expected it to be the worst movie ever and it mostly just ended up feeling fine but not good with a couple of decent scenes, but now I can't remember any of those decent scenes and would be legitimately annoyed if I had to watch it again.

The only cool part of the movie was getting to see a horror movie in an arthouse theater and having a completely silent crowd and than the movie gives up on it like 30 minutes in so we can hear what horseshit our unchallenged sentimental and "heroic" trump supporting protagonists have to say.

A good movie to watch that is also on Amazon Prime would be Forbidden Zone, a film that features Danny Elfman playing satan. It's goofy and weird and funny.

05. Candyman (1992; Bernard Rose)I am greatly unsettled by this every time I see it; much like Wicker Man, it carries such an uncomfortable atmosphere that I constantly realize I am physically tense.

if anyone is renting movies i recommend hong kong slasher dream home about a woman who goes on a killing spree in the luxury building she wishes to buy a condo at in order to drive down property values. extremely post-2008 global recession horror.

2. People Under the StairsGotta say, the characters make several poor choices in this one!! Enjoyed this most of the way, but all the best stuff is introduced by like the hour mark so it sort of sputters out toward the end. Weird seeing Big Ed and Nadine like this!

5. MayhemThis is nothing special but is a good amount of fun and Steven Yuen and Samara Weaving are so insanely good in it and handle some real clunky dialogue.masterfully and theres a good argument that they could be the leads in most movies.

1. Lake Mungo This was pretty damn boring. I don't think that a found footage movie from the 2006 era of cell phone videos is good. This had been hyped up for years and I was let down. 2. Final Destination 3This is the 2nd FD movie I have seen and it wasn't bad! Much better than Lake Mungo and was super fast paced. Might have to fit a few more of these into my 31 movie challenge.

06. The Slumber Party Massacre (1982; Amy Jones)
Wow this is a must-see. So many great subtle jokes about the patriarchy. Every death / discovery fuckin' rules. It wastes no time getting to gratuitous nudity and gore - look no further than the first 10 minutes if all you need out of this is porny teenage horror. The remaining hour or so almost feels like a different movie.

I screwed up and watched this last month and I should have waited.
Can't believe there is like a 2 minute shot of someone just lathering their butt in the shower.

02. Candyman (1992; Bernard Rose)A lot's been said about this one already, but I wanted to confirm: Candyman is legit one of the best 90s horror films around. It's genuinely creepy, and Tony Todd is perfect in the role. I actually met him at a Kansas City horror convention back in like 2015. Dude is massive. Very nice guy too. But everything about this movie works really well. I never watched the sequel though, I heard it wasn't great. 03. Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest (1995; James D.R. Hickox) It's kind of hilarious how this series has been a starting point for several actresses: Charlize Theron, Naomi Watts, Eva Mendes, and even Linda Hamilton. I'd seen the first two many years ago, but a lot of places claim this to be the best of the sequels, and after watching it, I have to agree... with a few caveats. for starters, there's some pretty inventive, and horrific death scenes, the most notable being poor T-Loc's demise: a grotesque 2 minutes of tentacle decapitation. Unfortunately there's also one of the worst examples of "practical effects" that is very "blink and you'll miss it." Essentially, He Who Walks Behind the Rows appears, and grabs a young lady. But pause it, and you'll realize that the woman is actually an action figure. It's pretty amazing.

07. The People Under the Stairs (1991; Wes Craven)First timer for me. Most of this is so good. LOVE the tilted shots down the hallways. Man, the dog in this is just relentless. Exhausting. Fool is the best character of any movie I’ve seen thus far (sorry Belial) <3 u wes
