Cleveland Spiders or Cleveland <insert band name here> should be what they end up going with.
Cleveland RUSH Cleveland Rolling Stones Cleveland Temptations Cleveland Diana Ross & The Supremes
Would buy a hat for any of those options.

I'm honestly just glad they're already shooting down that specific alternative. I've seen so much support for it, as if the name itself was the be all end all of the problem. I saw this concept art, and personally, think it'd be a great direction: www.behance.net/gallery/101622239/CLE-Guardians

And also while I'm not 100% sold on some of the designs in that mock-up, I think the Guardians is best local-specific name choice they could roll with. Would only prefer Spiders to that.

I like Spiders, but I'm an easy sell on historicity, and also not arachnophobic.

The Negro League museum in KC needs a coat of paint but it’s a very cool way to spend a few hours if you’re a fan of the game

The Negro League museum in KC needs a coat of paint but it’s a very cool way to spend a few hours if you’re a fan of the game absolutely. the only time i've been to kansas city was a 24-hour whirlwind highlighted by the negro leagues museum and a mets/royals game. very worthwhile.

Yeah that was definitely the highlight of my trip through KC last year.
Hopefully this change means Buck O'Neil and Minnie Minoso finally get inducted into the Hall. Took way too long.

Like that was such a perfect day.
- went to the Negro League Museum - gorged myself on BBQ at Gate's - went to the WW1 Museum - saw Eloy's debut - gorged myself on a BBQ pizza - drank Tank 7 and ate an edible in the hotel room
Yay solo travel.

Oh and this reminds me of a story...
I was wearing a KC Monarchs hat to a party my friend was having, and a woman walks up to me and asks me about it. I told her about the hat, mentioned I picked it up while I was in KC at a Sox-Royals game. She then accused me of being racist and walked off.
Still confused by that interaction.

Maybe you said "Negro League" and she wasn't familiar with it, and just assumed you still called black people negros.

From the Omar Vizquel domestic abuse piece in the Athletic:
"MLB probed an incident from 2019 when Vizquel was managing the Double-A Birmingham Barons, a minor league affiliate within the Chicago White Sox organization. The incident, which involved a male team employee, led to Vizquel being dismissed as manager of the team in the month before his one-year contract expired, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation."
What the White Sox said after he was let go:
