Yoelqui Céspedes, MLB.com’s No. 1 international prospect -- and the younger half-brother of free-agent outfielder Yoenis Céspedes -- is expected to sign with the White Sox for a bonus near $2 million, according to industry sources.

Padres about to trade for Snell. They’re like a better managed version of the Sox.

Yeah if the Cubs can get out from that contract and net real prospect return at the same time that would be huge coup, especially with how that contract looked even just a year ago.

A few reports saying a catcher may be involved too. I would think the more likely candidate is Caratini since he was Yu's personal catcher on the Cubs, but WOW what would a trade look like for Darvish and Contreras

1. More upset about Caratini going than Yu.
2. Hope this means they’re gonna bring Lester back

1. More upset about a backup catcher going than one of the best pitchers in baseball.
2. Hope this means they're gonna bring one of the worst pitchers in baseball back.

1. We’ve all got our favorites and like Pale Hose said that contract is an albatross
2. Assuming they get some pieces back in this deal (who knows!) and somebody takes a step forward bringing Lester back on a short term deal, especially with my understanding of where the free agent market is, isn’t awful to me. And I know awful, I’ve watched this team most of my life!

That contract is absolutely not an albatross. He has 3/59 left and the salaries decrease each year.
Hyun-Jin Ryu got 4/80 last year for his age 33-36 seasons and he had a much shorter track record of success. If Darvish was a free agent this year, 3/60 is probably the floor of what he would get.

That's a terrific contract. Figured they'd want to hold onto him after he finally figured out how to be a consistently great pitcher. I cannot figure out what the Cubs are doing - is this a teardown, or are they content to be an 85 win team in a mediocre division?

Yeah I don't like that trade for the Cubs. If they are eating money I would have expected the prospect return to be greater.

Padres didn't have to commit any top prospects or a 10 year deal and just landed a number 1 starter. Contract alone should have yielded more of a return.
