"radius clause" - hot lingo for anything related to festivals apparently

Today I learned that Coachella has a radius clause extending 2,207 miles at least

coachella can't announce until their headliners cancel all of their contracts in japan

Assuming this is more of a date radius than location. Otherwise yeah, quite the overreach.

a "date radius" is not a thing but i understand what you are saying
it is funny that their social media person knows/likes festivals enough to know the term "radius clause" but also not understand what it actually is

Lurking on the Lolla board 15 years ago, glomming on to the term “radius clause”, failing high school geometry, getting a job with Resonate Suwannee. In that order.

Wretched says some dude put a lengthy post up on Twitter that Shakira was a lock, then Doja's people made a headline push, and neither artist is willing to be billed 2nd AND Goldenvoice pissed them both off. There is still no 3rd headliner and no timetable for an annoucement.

This might be naïve but how in the world is Shakira big enough to even be in the conversation to headline Coachella in 2024? I don't see the typical Coachella attendee giving even a small fuck about Shakira.

I don't see the typical Coachella attendee giving even a small fuck about Shakira. She has 60 million monthly Spotify listeners. That's in line with the biggest headliners they normally get and more than both Lana and Tyler. Did the Super Bowl halftime show a few years ago. Lots of hits over the years. Rarely does live performances I don't know if the average person that goes to Coachella is going to care but she's definitely very big

The only Shakira song I really know is the one from Zootopia but I definitely think she makes more sense as the headliner than Doja Cat. But also, I'm an old.

Yea I was gonna say Lana / Tyler / Doja is more like a Gov Ball-ass set of headliners. Shakira at least adds a more unique or prestige element to the fest.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse / Lana Del Rey / Shakira would unironically be the coolest set of Coachella headliners since the early 2010s

That twitter thread also said that Shakira was counting on Coachella to hype up ticket sale for her tour and she might downgrade venues in some markets if she doesn't headline the fest. So that makes me think she has a pretty impressive production planned.

So that makes me think she has a pretty impressive production planned. She last played Chicago in 2018, so I'm assuming that was around a tour ( around the same time as Lolla, where she would be a dope headliner), so its not like she's been around a bunch. That used to be a Big Thing that Mattered at Coachella. Shakira has also been signed to a big record label since 1990 which I did not know and is genuinely incredible. I would be significantly more excited about her headlining than Doja Cat

Wherever, Whenever? I know a little bit of Hips Don’t Lie but that’s it. But I wasn’t really listening too much pop music when she was at her peak.
